Summary

What are the essential characteristics to call a school an authentically Montessori one?

To answer this question, we can only start from the words of Dr. Montessori. In her writings that principles and practices are found. There interdependent categories emerge such that participate equally in the implementation of a school that responds to the needs of children and is faithful to Her thought.

AMI, THE POTENTIAL OF AN INTERNATIONAL HORIZON FOR THE MONTESSORI SCHOOL IN ITALY

Natalie Paul. She is the President of MIA, the Italian branch of AMI. She completed her AMI 6-12 diploma in Bergamo with Baiba Krumins Grazzini and currently runs a small private Montessori school near Como. She has a degree in Marine Biology from the University of St. Andrews and a law degree from the University of Edinburgh. Natalie is a firm believer in the power of the Montessori method to create a more equal and peaceful society. When not busy in the classroom, she enjoys hiking in the mountains with her 3 children and cooking for family and friends.

THE PLANNING OF A MONTESSORI LOWER SECONDARY SCHOOL IN RELATION TO THE THIRD DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Summary

After decades of waiting, with Law no. 150 of 1 October 2024, Italy has the Montessori secondary school within the system, which allows the verticalization of that approach. The experiments implemented first in Milan and then at a national level have confirmed that what Maria Montessori stated about the third development plan and the school for adolescents can have very useful applications in our secondary state school.

Stefano Scippo. He is a fixed-term researcher in didactics and special pedagogy at the University of Florence, he obtained a doctorate in Psychology of Social Processes at Sapienza University of Rome. Previously he worked as a Montessori teacher and as a trainer.
